NunoOrganic’s products are all from recognized European producers, with many years of experience in manufacturing and selling natural products free from chemicals. They all fulfill stringent quality demands from am.o. the German kbA. Please refer to the description of environmental labeling.
Clothes, Toys and other products that kids have close daily contact with can contain many different chemicals. Dioxin, azo-colors, formaldehyde, PVC, heavy metals and pesticide residues are some of them. Not all consequences of these chemicals are fully known yet, some known ones are allergy and eczema and in worst case damages of our reproductive ability and nervous system.
Except for the fact that the chemicals can harm us as consumers, they are also the cause of large damages in the local communities where the raw material is grown. F.inst. is 25% of the worlds total use of pesticides used on the cotton fields. That is in spite the fact that cotton production only counts for a small fraction of the world’s total production of crop.
Below please find a description of the most commonly used certificates in NunoOrganic’s selection.
KbA – Kontrolliert biologische Anbau
The kbA cotton is organic grown and certified by an independent German institute. KbA is comparable with the Swedish “KRAV” and the Dutch “SKAL” certifications.
Compared with the Nordic “SWAN” certificate and the “EU flower” certificate, the kbA has stricter requirements for their certificate. KbA cotton is grown without the use of fertilizers and pesticides. The fields are not grown as monocultures and instead of using pesticides, the fields are weeded. The insects are collected manually. Compost is used instead of fertilizer. The cotton is picked by hands in three rounds, which enhances the quality of the harvest. Since no chemicals are used in the growing, both the environment as well as the people working with the cotton is spared.
It is not only the environment that benefits from the organic production method. As a consumer, you can enjoy organic cotton, knowing that in the production of kbA-cotton no harmful substances have been used.
The kbA production of cotton uses more robust cotton plants that give smaller yields. The cotton is however of very high quality.
Demeter certified cotton and wool
Demeter certified cotton and wool fulfills as a minimum the same criteria’s as kbA, but is grown by the Rudolf Steiner philosophy. It can be compared with biodynamic farming.
The bourette silk is manufactured by the mulberry silkworm. Clothes made by Bourette silk obtain an uneven surface, which gives this type of silk a very significant look. It has a reputation of having a healing effect and to give calmness to the skin. It has a characteristic scent of hay.
Schurwolle/ Schur wool
Schurwolle is wool of excellent quality. It gives isolation against cold as well as heat. Wool can absorb 1/3 of its own weight without feeling wet. This is the reason why Schurwolle is so suited for clothing.
Merino wool is the finest and softest wool existing. It is usually from
